Motive is a partnership between two Sudanese women’s organizations, the gender centre for research and training, salmmah centre, and two international organizations, panos-sudan and Cordaid. The organization was set up with the objective of putting the resources , capacities and the spirit of the four founding organizations together so as to work more effectively , have a wider outreach and increase their impacts on violence against women and mainstreaming gender. Combining strength in combating violence against women is of critical importance anywhere in the world, but certainly in the present context in Sudan.

The three Sudanese organizations combine a vast experience in research actions and documentation on women’s issues with commitment and professionalism. They will focus on two main areas:Combating violence against women.

Integrating a gender prospective in policies issues (mainstreaming gender).

And sharing advice on haw to increase the strengths and lessen the weaknesses of each partner, and activity framework developed.
In December 2005a second workshop was organized (the red sea workshop)  the three organizations and Cordaid and some of their close partners met again for six full days , sixteen participants were represented to produce a three years strategic plan and detailed activity plan for 2006-2008 . The meeting used a variety of methods and styles to conduct its activities, clear values and shared vision and mission were developed, and three years strategic planning document was produced (2007-2009). Scope and purpose
Why this partnership?
The answer is in our definition, which was developed in the founding workshop in July 2005
”the partnership is: value based strategy , attitudes , process of collaboration and coordination of efforts between likeminded organizations or individuals with the purpose of complementing and enhancing capacities maximizing effectiveness and output , we regard partnership as a mutual learning process”.
This definition has many elements; one of them is the learning approach .we mean by that while actually shaping the partnership we will be reflecting on the process itself, so as to be optimally learning from it , making it more effective and being able to share our experiences with other likeminded partnerships and learn from them. The process itself will be documented not only through reports but also possibly with a variety of means and tools.
Partnership is more than just bringing together as many actors as possible. In partnership, two or more parties combine their knowledge, skills and resources to achieve common goals; this translates into a commitment extending beyond borders and across generations and interest. We must use the benefit that generates to work towards empowerment of women.
Essentially, partnership is an attitude, a working method and means. Yet no matter what from the partnership takes, it can never be non- committal. By searching together for added value, partners are centered into a joint commitment.
This complementary partnership is considered as a natural evolution to an already existed strategic partnership between the four partner institutions. Thus, the seeds for success have already been planted through previous experiences notable among them was a VAW reconnaissance research (2003) and VAW documentary film.
The purpose of this partnership project is to contribute to breaking the silence and throwing light on VAW in Sudan and to conceptualize and contextualize it in a way that contributes significantly to combating VAW and structural inequalities in Sudan.
The purpose is toMainstreaming gender.Combating violence against women.
